BIRDZONE TOYS
PLAYTIME
As with any animal or human, play time is important. Keeping your bird amused and happy is much like keeping a child entertained !! Birds are extremely intelligent and sensitive to their environment. Adequate mental stimulation is as necessary as good food to ensure their overall health & well being.
In the wild birds will play for hours with other members of their flock as well as ‘natural’ toys they find around them. Companion Birds kept on their own need the same level of amusement and occupation, which must then be provided by their owners and toys!! We cannot all spend 24/7 with our companion bird, so toys are important to ease boredom & loneliness when they are on their own.
Every Parrot is individual in its likes & dislikes, so we have designed a range of toys that differ in construction, materials, colour & texture.
Some toys invite exploration, some lots of flapping & antics, while others simply are designed to be chewed !!
Careful supervision is necessary when introducing new toys to gauge your bird’s reaction to it. Not all toys will be welcomed, and some may cause nervousness, so it is always important to carefully supervise new additions. While some toys may be much loved, they may result in boisterous play, more suitable for outside the confines of a cage.
SAFETY GUIDE
Check carefully for how your bird is interacting with their new toy. If they are chewing it, is it of a suitable size and materials for this purpose ? Are any parts being broken off that could cause damage from sharp edges or ingestion ? Are there any parts that your bird could get ‘caught’ in, as this could cause panic and injury. Ensure the Quick Link is secure.
Throughout the Toy’s life, frequently check for any signs of wear that could cause a problem. Toys do not last forever and as they age, edges can get broken, rope can fray & tangle, and they can house an armada of bacteria if not cleaned regularly.
All our Toys are able to be cleaned, and we suggest they are regularly cleaned to avoid bacteria build up. Hard surfaces can be wiped cleaned with warm water & detergent, but remember to rinse thoroughly !! If you are washing wooden pieces, remember these can take a while to dry, due to the absorbent qualities of the wood. Cotton rope can be soaked & washed, but remember to rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before returning to your bird.
It is always better to keep the toys away from the food areas of the cage wherever possible, but if they do become soiled, we do recommend disinfecting with a proper avian disinfectant, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
SIZING
Another very important point to consider when buying a new toy is the size of the toy and it’s suitability for your bird. Smaller toys ARE NOT suitable for large destructive parrots, as they contain small pieces which could be ingested by your bird. If you are at all unsure, please email us!!

Metal
All the metal that we use is safe for birds !! Unless otherwise stated in the individual description, Chain, Wire & Q-Links are all made from Stainless Steel, and while more expensive than cheaper varieties available, it is simply the safest metal for your bird.
Wood
All the wood used in our toys is untreated and safe for birds. If coloured, it is coloured with food grade, safe dyes.
Cotton Rope
All the Cotton Rope we use is unbleached, and unpolished. This means it will pull apart easily, so it cannot cause the damage to legs & feet like polished cotton can. It is soft & fluffy and digestible if chewed !! If coloured, it is coloured with food grade, safe dyes.
Leather
Only naturally tanned leather is used in our toys.
Plastic & Acrylic
Hard Plastic is a durable and safe product for Bird Toys, provided it does not have sharp edges, or can be swallowed !
It does last a long time and is quite resistant to scratching. However, sometimes breakages can result in sharp edges, so always regularly check your bird’s toys for wear.
Rubber
Only 100% natural rubber is used. This is soft, flexible, durable and safe for your bird.
Dyes
Where used, these are Food Grade, safe Dyes. They do fade in the sunlight, and will run if the Toy gets wet. So remember this when washing your Toys !!
Lastly, while all our Toys are tested on our own birds, all birds are different and have their own style of play, so please read the information provided and chose carefully!!! If in doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us.
